About Med Coat AB
Med Coat AB is a Swedish company that develops and manufactures consumer healthcare products that make it easier to take tablets and capsules. The company is based in Tyresö in the Stockholm area, with a production facility in Karlshamn, Sweden.
Our mission is to make it easy and pleasant for people all over the world to swallow tablets and capsules.
The products are developed in co-operation with highly reputed companies within the medical technology sector and the food and pharma industry. All products are manufactured in Med Coat AB's modern production facility in Karlshamn, Sweden.
FROM AN IDEA TO EVERYDAY LIFE
Our story
The idea came from Fredrik Liljeblad, who was studying at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and wanted to mask the taste of a vitamin tablet he was taking. In 1999 he had created a "coat" for bad-tasting tablets and filed a patent application. After graduating in 2002, Fredrik contacted his school friend Johan Axelsson, and years of development followed: getting the gel food-classified, elastic and with exactly the right consistency. By 2007 the consistency was right. Together with a confectionery manufacturer in Blekinge, a production line was built. A clinical study run in parallel exceeded expectations, and in 2011 MEDCOAT® was launched in Sweden. Today MEDCOAT® is sold in several countries, including the USA, where it is distributed to cancer clinics, pharmacies and hospitals.

Awards
Med Coat AB's technology is prize winning. The company has been granted the following awards:
- The NOVA prize at Northern Europe's biggest fair for entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurial Day, at the Swedish Exhibition Centre in Gothenburg.
- 2nd prize in the Innovation Cup Region East.
- 2nd prize in McKinsey's Venture Cup. The prize was presented by the King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf.
